Prof. D.Z. Deniz received the B.Sc.(Eng.) degree in electrical and electronic engineering and the M.Sc. degree in electronics engineering from QMC and KCL, University of London in 1976 and 1977 respectively. He joined University College London, Department of Computer Science for research as a Commonwealth Scholar and obtained the Ph.D. degree from University of London in 1991 in the field of computer networks. He followed a career in professional engineering and worked as an R&D Electronics Engineer at GEC Telecommunications Ltd., Coventry (UK) and at Crosfield Electronics in London (UK), during 1978-1980. He then joined the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) in 1981 as a lecturer. He joined the same department after returning from research leave in 1991 as an assistant professor. Currently, he is a professor, chairman of the department and the founding director of the Information Technologies R&D Center. He has been a British Council Visiting Scholar in 1992 and Fulbright Scholar joining the STT program in the USA in 1993 and in 1999. He is the author of many scholarly publications including a book entitled “ISDN and Its Application to LAN Interconnection” (London, McGraw-Hill, 1994). He is the holder of Science & Technology Award from the Istanbul Technical University (1995). His research interests include fast network technologies, network interconnection, call admission control, multimedia traffic characterization, distance learning, software engineering, academic decision support systems, engineering education. Dr. Deniz is a member of the IEEE Communications and Computer Societies, IEE (UK) since 1975, ACM since 2000. He is also a member of the IEE(UK) and SCS(USA). He has been a past member of the BSI IST 6/2 and TCT 8/-/4 committees in the UK.
